larger tranny pan?

Hello all, I am new to this board and to diesel. I stoped at a local shop to ask about upgrades(gauges, tranny coolers, exhaust). The guy there said I would not need a tranny cooler just the larger tranny pan. It seems like a good idea. more fluid more cooling time. Has anyone done this and does it work???

I just did a tranny service and I looked into that stuff. The extra capacity of those larger pans arn't really gonna buy you much more cooling. For less than half the price I got a big aux cooler. I also installed the Diablo power valve and swapped to Amsoil ATF. My tranny temps dropped at least 50 deg and that's with a lift and 36's! Don't get me wrong, the pan would help, but not that much...

I agree. A better tranny cooler will do you a world of good, much more than a larger pan.

Try to avoid the place that told you that - they are lazy, and don't want to do a proper job.

You need cooling with the largest aux cooler you can fit.
