Restoration progress....
I have a previous thread on this (long-term) restoration, but I can't find it since it has taken so long. Probably just as well since I wanted to post a few pictures of the current progress. Funny how time flies!!

Yes, I moved the tank to the rear. Goodness knows, the advice I got here on FTE has helped me immensely, so glad that I can return the favor. Feel free to email me directly if I can assist in any way (ehershkowitz@Hotmail.com). I used a TanksInc. 70's mustang tank, the large one - 22 gal., set up for fuel injection. I ran hard lines, send and return to the FI unit. I removed the next to last crossmember and cut the rivets on the back crossmember so that it could be bolted in. Made a supporting frame for the tank out of 1/2" x 1" box tubing so that the tank could be slid in from the rear and sits just above the bottom of the frame rail. It would have been much easier to mount the tank from below, but I wanted the tank to sit as high as possible so that it wouldn't look hanging-down from behind. This necessitated some mod's to be made to the filler neck and access door in the bed as the clearance was very tight. Also, I had to modify two of the bed crossmembers so that the hard lines wouldn't get pinched and I could mount an access door. I used a patch from another bed to make the access door so that once its mounted it will be nearly invisible. You may not want to do yours the way I did. Others on FTE have also moved the tank to the rear and, I'm sure found much easier and cheaper ways to complete it. The third photo is from FTE, not my setup...he reused the second to last crossmember, essentially doubling the last crosspiece and set the tank directly on the frame rail.
