I am buying a 2002 7.3 lariat w a cracked fuel cup. I've heard it is good to replace injectors at 100,000 miles but being strapped for cash I've decided to just buy new cups/O-rings and just start at the 1st cylinder. Any advice anyone has is appreciated. Thx
I had a 140k on my '02 F250 when I sold it, the injectors were working just fine. I did however get a check engine light and turned out #6 glo plug was weak. So I got on youtube and watched a bunch of vids on how to R&R all eight of them. Kind of a PIA due to all the crap in the way but it got done. I wouldn't even think of trying the same job in my '16 PSD. Try running some Opti Lube in the fuel, helps lubricate the injectors....among other things.

ive never replaced mine on my late 99 7.3 and I have 407k miles honestly I've never heard of replacing them at 100k

I used to own a 01 7.3 with 196k. My injectors ran perfect even in the cold chicago weather its whole life. I as well never had of replacing them at 100k. A waste of money to replace them that early IMO, I would go with what you suggested new cups and o rings and just clean them back up and put them back. Unless one is causing and issue. Like my buddy told me, if it ain't broke don't fix it (within reason).
Never heard of that 100K recommendation. My '02 has 240K and I'm just now having to replace the injector cups. In fact, this will be my first and only time to do anything to the engine. I've gone through starters, alternators, etc. but never cracked open the engine. It's been a great truck.
I'm in the middle of replacing my injectors and cups right now. In all the reading/researching I've done I have not come across that. I have read that they start to wear around 200K regardless of how good a condition they're in. I'm at 305K on the original injectors/O-rings and the O-rings are going bad. My injectors were running great (have read of people going over 400K on the originals) but had the means to get new ones so I only have to do this once.
There's tons of tips and advice in the 1999-2003 7.3L forum. We aren't the first ones (or the second, or the third) to do this. I also recommend posting in there too. Lots of people that know a lot about these engines and can help.
