EEC-IV and timing problems

I have a 85 f-150, 4.9 with the feedback carb and eec-iv ignition. I had to put in a new distributor a while back ago, and when setting the timing I noticed that it doesn't advance. When I rev it up (even with the spout connector connected) it stays at the 10 degrees that it's set at. If I really rev it, it might advance a little, maybe 3 degrees or so. Anyways, I tried pulling the codes using a voltmeter and using a test light, and haven't had any luck either way. The test light just stays lit and the vom meter stays pegged out. I'm pretty sure I had them hooked up right. Is my computer dead? I'm not sure what to check next, I don't care about pulling the codes if I can figure out how to get the timing to advance. I'm sick of having to floor it to barely keep up with traffic, any help would be greatly appreciated.

EEC-IV and timing problems

From the posts I've read about the feedback carb and eec-iv, it sounds like it'd be easiest for me to just scrap this setup and go back to the duraspark II. I couldn't find the thread now, but I think I remember reading that issues like this are quite common for my ignition system, and it's not one of Ford's better ones. Anyone know what year trucks I should look for to find duraspark II stuff to swap?

78-80 should be fine. Why not upgrade the intake and carb while you are at it? An Offenhauser intake, EFI dual exhaust manifolds, and a 350cfm 2BBL really wake up the 300-6. There are also other options for spark systems. I have a DUI setup from Performance Distributors, it was expensive, but worth it. I think it was around $375 for the distributor, cap, rotor, coil, and module (HEI setup).

hey, im goin thru all that right now, and i got my parts from murrays, and ive spent 318 bucks so far just for the distributor, motorcraft cap(because of some oddball distributor) rotor, module, coil, misc wires, and a stock carb, i wanted to do the dual manifold or headers, and a new intake/carb but i dont have the funds....yet, goodluck with your swap

I'd love to upgrade the intake and carb, but I don't have the funds. I was hoping to find something at a salvage yard for a descent price. Within the last year I've put in a remanufactured carb and a new distributor (along w/ cap, rotor, module, coil, wires plugs), so I still can't decide if I should work on my timing problem or replace with duraspark II (wish I would have to begin with). I'll look around for prices on those years parts, will I need a new coil also or will my coil still work? Thanks guys
