I am new here to the forum and what I need to know is what the make/name of my manual transmission is and is it considered to be standard duty or heavy duty?
The only identifying marks are: KA
C499032
F2TA
I am curious but at the same time I want to make sure that I get the correct U joints. Oh and my truck is a '96 F-150 XL 2wd.
So far I have it narrowed down to either a Mazda tranny, an M50D, or even a ZF5.
-Thanks..
I'm doing it this way because the 90s-gen stuff is close enough to our own to still be applicable here + we have knowledgeable people here who can help if they stop by and have the time.
For example, most of the body parts can be interchanged 1980/1996 (and 1997 for the F250 which later morphed into a superduty-type of genre).
But I do it this way on purpose, thank you for asking and allowing me to explain publicly, Dave.

Personally, I think that with a 1996 F150, this trans request belongs in the 1987/96 forum.
For one thing, how many members of this forum have a truck parts catalog that applies to 1990 and later?
It's not available on a C/D, so if anyone does have one, it's an original loose leaf paper or microfiche parts catalog.
If the OP posts the TRANS code printed on the Certification Label instead of F2TA prefix that doesn't relate to anything, since it's missing the suffix, it will be easier to ID

Here are the available transmissions for a 1996 f150. Your code doesn't come up in the zf list.
OK, I *moved* the entire thread from 80-86 to 87-96.
But there is now a Redirect in place in 80-86 that will expire in one month (and then disappear, people will then NEED to go to 87-96 to see this thread).
You most likely have the Mazda M5, It's generally accepted that Ford never put a ZF in a 1/2 ton but that doesn't rule out the possibility that a PO swapped one in, you would know without looking anything up though because the ZF has a granny 1st ratio that makes the first to second shift awkward at best.
