check RPM's with dwell,tach, voltmeter?

I am checking the pressures on my AC system and the manual calls for the engine to be idling at 1500 rpm's. I have an old dwell, tach, and voltmeter. The instructions with the meter say it will work with a Ford TFI ignition from 81-86.

Before I take the doghouse cover off to access the coil, can anyone verify that the meter will work on a 88 E150 with fuel injection?
Didn't fuel injection come out in 85 for F series trucks?
I would think it should work but just wanted to check first..

Thanks
Anna

the old meters need either a hot side and a tach signal, or a ground and a positive tach signal.

the EECIV coils had 2 terminals going to them that should suffice. I recall using an old sun or actron or something tool years back (now I just ask the ecm....scan tools are cheap)

I think mine is a Actron.
What is a cheap scan tool to use on 1988 OBD1 that will read out live info?
Snap On MT2500 is the only one I know of..
