Another Idle problem.
I have a 92 F-150 w/5.0 auto trans. When driving the rpm's suddenly shot up to about 2000 rpms. After geting it home and parking, I slid the shifter to park and the rpm's went to 3000.
I had a mechanic run the scanner and it came up with no fault codes. He removed the EGR assy. cleaned it and cleaned the air ports of any residue and started it with the same problems.
Was wondering if anyone knew what else I could check. At this point in time I have also considered a sledgehammer but it's the wife customized truck so she won out on that.....HELP!!!
Not sure where these are located...Quit working on engines when they decided to go with computers. Last major engine work I did was on my old 57 Ford Fairlane "D" Gasser back in the mid 70's....But I'll give it a try...Thanks
I had an 87 Mustang that idled at 3000 for nearly a year and the dealership said they changed everything but the short block. I mentioned it to a buddy that owns his own garage and he said check the plug wires. The coil is under a cover on the fender and on the coil end it was corroded near gone. The rest of the wires looked like new, as they were only 2 years old as was the rest of the car. The engine somehow sensed it as a load and compensated by turning up the idle. The computer never did put out a code. A new coil wire dropped the idle right back to where it was supposed to be. My wife about wore out the brake system holding that thing back for a year. I still won't let that dealership work on anything else for me.
