Problems turning on
I have a 82 F-100 with a straight six in it. My recent problem is that the truck is having problems starting. The starter will engage but it seems like it is not getting enough spark or current to ignite the fuel. It will chug and make noise and it will almost turn over a few times. It usually does this for a couple of minutes and then it will slowly chug to life and will be fine. I do not even know where to begin. I have tried this with two different batteries, one a normal auto zone battery and the other a high amp deep cycle marine battery to see if that would help. Same problem. I am going to change the battery cables, but after that I don't know where to begin checking for a problem. Any thoughts on what I should do?

It could be a number of things. Your ignition module, your pickup coil in the distributer, your ignition coil. The best thing for you to do is get a manual and test these components with a meter.
