Tom, did you get your 49 painted yet? How far along are you with it?
Got a call today from the body shop after 10 days of absolute silence. He says he will begin painting on Thursday. <insert comical graphic here of me with skeptical expression on face> He has been saying that since May.
No Meadow Green yet....
Keep at it, Dave! I've been doing the same, after the painful experience of going thru my mother's "stuff" last year. It takes a while but soon enough you'll start noticing how you don't have to squeeze past one thing to get to another.
I've been busy helping Dad thin out his stuff. We got the pair of Kharman Ghia projects sold, got rid of the 51 F1 truck bed trailer and working on finding a buyer for the pair of old "Poppin' Johnies"
Anybody have any interest in some early "B" Model John Deere's?
Dad's health isn't the best and he's trying to clear things out while he still can.
Collecting and getting rid of stuff as we've moved around North America 8 times in the past 15 years has become a constant challenge. We were getting better, but since we have moved into a house we built over the past two years I see that same addition of stuff going on again. And now the '50 truck is almost home permanently so we spent most of last weekend cleaning out half the new garage - a year old and a vehicle has never parked there! Oh well, soon we should fix that. But it is getting harder to part with some things, because now we have room for them. Basic human instinct I think.
I read recently that antiques and old furniture are getting harder to get rid of in some cities. Millennials are not interested in"brown stuff" (the author called it that) apparently.
Thats what my garage looked like a year ago.
now I can start to see the ceiling. (Plus the attic is full)
Most of it is my truck stuff but when my wifes grandpa passed away 18 months ago we ended up with all sorts of furniture and other stuff. Im down to only a few of those items left in there. I had to move it into a storage area in an old building we purchased 2 counties away. Also moved a bunch of truck parts there to clear out space in the garage so I can actually work in there. Its getting organized just very slowly. Like Tom mentioned with duplicate and triplicate parts I'm sure ive forgotten half of what I put where and am always surprised when I find something good that I forgot about.
Three car garage has the gpw (jeep) and the f6 cab in there. Maybe in the next month or so my wife can start parking her car in there again, maybe...
Im not a hoarder, ive just stopped selling things.

Bobby
love those Johnnie poppers. I missed an opportunity to buy 3 for $900 a few years back.
they were all mostly complete. And I'm sure didnt run but they should have come home with me anyway...
Well I haven't parked in my garage in the past 17 years... for 2 years before that I had my old Porsche in the garage. Growing up my folks never had an empty garage. Currently our garage is as full as my Mom's, we also have 2 10x20 storage units (just emptied another 10x20), Mom has 3 large storage units in her backyard, and her patio is full of furniture. I've been trying to clear out some of my Mom's collections (she use to be a antique dealer), so for the past 2 years I've had a space at a local antique malls. Wish me luck!
I too have a nice stash of trucks and parts. Since I live in a suburb of St. Louis in a subdivision I too have a shed/barn/pole barn/ mason building. I use to have a brake & frontend alignment business in a two story building in Cairo Illinois but the demolition crew tearing the building down next to mine tore a huge hole in our common wall and compromised my buildings integrity. Urgently needing a place to move my stash I found the barn I'm now in. Unfortunately it's about a 25 minute drive from my home. That's good that the wife doesn't constantly see be hauling parts in and out but involves a commitment to go out to work on things. Oh did I mention no water
I am a hoarder I suppose. I just can't pass up parts for our old hobby. Just this weekend at Branson, while Joe (Harrier) was wheeling and dealing for his parts, I ended up purchasing two original radiators and a YBlock oil pump. Had no intention of buying a thing. Emptied my wallet, hey it's only money right, and now I gotta pay the radiator guy to check them and tell me, more than likely, their JUNK.
As far as I know no one in my family even has an inkling of a interest in our sickness, I mean hobby. So the buck stops here. I don't care if my whole collection gets sold for pennies on the dollar. My biggest fear is that it will be carted of to the junk yard and crushed for scrap.
I've left Kevin's (BIGWIN56F100) Phone number with my kids. I'd give them others if I knew others, what a rush a bidding war for your stuff, just so our hobbie continues.
Since this thread has taken on the "disposal of the estate" context, I'll throw this out for digestion. I am old enough that many of my friends have died off. We are all just penciled in, ya know. This story should tell the problems with a surviving spouse being unaware of the value of something.
Many years back we had as family friends a couple where the husband died suddenly. He had built a beautiful lakefront home and told folks he had about $35,000. in construction costs as he sub contracted and did a lot of work himself. At time of his death, I would swag the house and land was worth a couple hundred thousand at least.
While still grieving, the widow told a family friend she wanted to sell and at the $35,000. price that she remembered her husband saying he had in it. Even with objection from other friends, the deal went thru. I forgot to mention she was hard headed and apparently not too bright.
The widow moved into a small apartment, found a boyfriend to help her spend her meager savings and investments and finally wound up living with her sister till her death. Not a pretty situation. Oh, she did keep her Cadillac till she could not afford to keep it running.
So make sure family members know the realistic value of your estate.
Ok Bob you got me. I have no room to do much inside the garage. I have quite a bit of tools but everything is on wheels so i pull it out use it and slide it back.
I have long wanted a huge garage and land for my projects. Just recently i tried to rent buildings in my area and make room to have a frame inside over winter..
I will get the dream place when im too old to enjoy it.
Not quite that bad yet What I find my self doing when I feel "cluttered", is just rearranging it! Don't get rid of anything, just put it in a different spot I'm also a lot like the rest of you. The more room you have, the more stuff your hoard! Being raised on a farm, you never threw anything away. If it fit in a shed you would throw it in there. If it was to big, you would pull it out back to the tree row. All good because this is what probably save my old truck from being scrapped. What's crazy about all of this, if you need something you always know you have it. Just might not know exactly where it is located. Trust me, you'll come across it sooner or later!
My Dad's shop is 20 X 30 and packed full, as well as his 3 car garage. The really bad news for me is at least half that stuff is already mine. I know I can get rid of half of it and never miss it. I just don't know which half!
