NP-208 Transfer case slipping into neutral...
Ok.. Driving to work this morning the rpms drop? And the truck (the 84 Bronco XLT) clunks and then goes again. Seems like the Xfer slipped into neutral.
Coming home from work it did it every 2-3 miles.. I had to shut the truck off... put the xfer in 4L, then put in 2H and it was fine... the slips out... nasty sounds... shut truck off.. etc..
What could be the problem? I definitely think my Xfer is toast!

Tranny is tight to engine, Xfer is tight to tranny, Tranny mount is fine... The xfer case was 1 quart low on fluid.. so this might have helped the problem along...
I spoke with the shop today that is going to fix it. He said the NP-208's with high mileage tend to wear out the 'range' fork. It wears to thin making the xfer slip.. so I will know more when he dismantles it on Monday...

The xcase has had problems with the shift forks and other parts when ran low on fluid. the forks are very soft and seem to ware thru at the point were the fork holds on the gear. I've seen sevral due this but mostly its the fork that shifts from two wheel to four wheel.
