88 F-250 drivability issues
i searched the archives a bit for this one, found a few similar problems, but no solutions.
i recently bought an 88' F-250, got a great deal on it. brand new Jasper engine, drivetrain/suspension recently gone through,,,in short the guy built a new truck under an 88" body.
drove it about 1500 miles since purchase, runs/drives great. . .untill. ..
two days ago the front tank was reading low, so when she sputtered, i switched to the rear tank. usualy, she chugs a bit, then away we go. this time it flat out died. i coasted a ways, then put the transmission into neutral, tried starting it, and no go.
had her towed home, and upon arrival, she fired right up.
started about 10 times after being parked from the tow, started great all 10 times.
i was on my way to the parts store to get a fuel filter, and she died again!!!
the engine lopes (revs about 1500, then down to about 400 rpm) but has done this since i got it. untill now it was more of an annoyance till it got warm. now im not sure i didnt have a problem since the start.
the iniertia switch seems to be fine, as i get fuel pump sounds for 2 seconds when turning the key and not cranking it.
this is my first experiance with dual tanks. did i do a bad thing by letting the tanks drain? should i blow out the lines with air to remove any possible obstructions?

louder as in like a "groaing" sound?
but of the same durration as before when the key is turned?
Thanks

With it starting while cold or just intermittently it could be the ignition control module or TPS,EGR....etc..etc.
Pull the codes, you may just have a sensor out. Click HERE to learn how without a scanner, I use a jumper wire and a test light. Buy a Haynes manual, these are the best for diagnosing computer related problems. Don't buy any sensor's until you have tested them, this method can and will get expensive. But check the fuel pressure first to rule that out.
Post what you find.
Good luck!
thanks all for the great responces,,,turns out it was the ignition controle module. . . oh well i guess that'll teach me to think next time!@
thanks again. . .
