Caliper won't release fully.

Hello, I have a 1999 F350 single rear wheel Superduty truck that will not allow the right rear caliper to fully release. I replaced the caliper/mounting hardware/pads/rotor. The problem continued so I replaced the rubber hose to the caliper. Problem continues. I'm thinking possibly the center rubber brake line at the differential (where it splits and goes right/left) but at this point I am guessing. Maybe proportionate valve but I know nothing about them. Any input would be appreciated.

I've heard of rubber lines going bad internally and causing this type of problem, but if it was the center hose, you should be having problems with both rear calipers. What's going on with your brakes? Nothing misadjusted in the parking drum assembly is there? I've seen problems there (heat buildup etc) be mistaken for problems with the service brakes.

I don't think anything is wrong with parking brake, at least not that I can tell. Best I can tell the rear caliper is holding on too long after I remove my foot from the pedal. I can feel it grinding sometimes 10 seconds after I let go of the pedal. The caliper piston itself will compress, but the end result is always that the caliper seizes up on the mounting hardware slide pins and won't glide anymore.

I'm realizing I probably mislabeled this thread. To be clear, the caliper piston does not appear to be what is failing. When I remove the caliper it is always seized to the slide pins of the mounting hardware, but the piston itself is not seized. I have replaced the caliper/hardware 3x over the past 2 years and each time it seizes again. I assumed it was because the caliper was not releasing but I could be wrong. The last time I changed it, I also changed the rubber hose at the caliper. I have no idea what would cause the right rear caliper/hardware to fail so often. Maybe I will retitle the thread and post it again. Any input would be appreciated.

You have twice mentioned/referenced the glide pins. Do you think perhaps they could be the problem. Lubing them with Sil-Glyde or replacing them may be the answer to your problem?

I've replaced and lubed them a total of 3x so far. Each time I replace the caliper it is totally stuck to the pins again.

What are you using to lube the pins? Sounds like it's inadequate and the pins are still freezing up over time due to corrosion.

I'm using the lube that comes with the caliper hardware kit.

It usually only takes about 1500 miles before the pins are seized again.

Try Sil-Glyde instead. It's available at NAPA and elsewhere.

Simple old school test can be done to see if its a line or the calipers that are causing the dragging problem... While your near the one that you suspect is the problem have someone step on the brake pedal and then release it. wait 5 seconds and crack the bleeder valve open. if you get a gush of brake fluid its a collapsed line somewhere up the system from that caliper.. if you get nothing-slight trickle then its the caliper..
