I undercoated my entire truck. I had an '04 - the cross beams / rails on the underside of the bed rotted big time and the primary reason I got rid of my '04. the 13's not gonna rot that's for sure
I bought the Ziebart exterior/interior package (tar like coating underneath) with my truck but still had the truck treated with Rust Kote (used to be be Carwell Products, Buffalo, NY) which is a yearly application with a Heavier oil for the bottom of truck and a lighter oil for inside the body. I live in the Rust Belt also, so I like to be overkill...go figure...
About the 17s, it probably depends on where you live and what happens in the winter time there. My buddy just picked up a 17 F350 and those aluminum body panels are pretty thin. If the salt here in the rust belt gets through the paint to bare aluminum, it will corrode. Any bare aluminum around here corrodes.
Plus it also depends on how a*** you are when it comes to keeping your truck clean and corrosion free underneath.
I would say yes to undercoating bare aluminum only because where I live in S Florida I see the salt screw with both metal and aluminum. I work on the coast and see a lot of aluminum that has corroded to the point where parts are not useable. Sometimes it almost worst than rust.
