I got a 2007 F350 Super Duty. The rear axle code says 3L. I noticed that when i am towing a large load and make a tight turn from a dead stop, i feel something like a slipping feeling in the rear end. Kind of like its in 4x4 but it is not. It does not do it any other time, even tight turns flat or down hill, only when pulling hard. Is this something normal or could there be an issue. I can't remember if has always done it or not.
I have not. It has about 55,000 miles on it and about 5,000 are mine since i am not the original owner. But they are mostly towing miles. I figured i should do that first.
Just to be clear, its not really a noise. More of a feeling in the truck. Hard to explain. The more i research it, it almost seems like maybe it is just the feeling of the clutch releasing in the differential.
Your limited slip clutch plates may be worn. Grab your driveshaft, truck in neutral and see how much you can turn your driveshaft. Black gear oil is another giveaway. My 2009 only has 80,000km [50k miles] but it hauled a slide in camper for a bunch of those. My clutch plates were worn bad in that low of km. I believe your tag means you have 3.73 limited slip.
I will give that a shot. But if the clutch pads are worn, wouldn't it be slipping? It feels like they are not releasing, not slipping. And it does not do anything going straight even when on the pedal hard. I guess i am not really sure exactly what it does when they go bad though, i am only making an assumption.
