Hi guys, I just bought my first diesel and just like everything else I have to Hook it up. I bought a '02 F350 CC Dually w/ the 7.3L PSD and a automatic and 21K on the clock, I am not sure which rear gear ratio I have though. I pull a trailer (27ft box trailer with a 3200 lbs car in it) quite a bit, but I do just as much in town driving.
My question is where do I start with the upgrades and still keep fuel economy in mind? What are good brands and what do I stay away from, and websites as well? Is a downpipe worth it or is the full exhaust the way to go? Which chips/power modules are you guys having good luck with?
I think that fuel economy will all depend on if you can keep your foot out of it when you have the added power.
I'd start first with gauges......Pyrometer (thermocouple mounted pre turbo), Boost Gauge, and a Trans. Temp. I like my ISSPRO gauges and a bunch of my buddies have Autometer gauges and they are real nice too.
Then an Intake......AFE or Tymar.
I'd go with a complete turbo back exhaust.....the stock muffler is pretty restrictive.
Then I'd go with a two, three or four position flip chip.
the very same thing, it is what everybody does to modify there trucks and it works. anything else and then you are talking lots of cash, but yes the same things, gauges, exhaust, downpipe, chip, cold air intake.
You can get the Ford Severe Duty Intake from Ford. Motorcraft Part Number FA-1759 List $250.00 (Discounted about $175). Kit comes with new airbox, battery tray, mounting and air intake. It seems to be less restrictive than the stock filter assembly and it also makes the battery easier to access. The filter is massive, but replacements cost $80+.
