I'm 1100 miles from my truck and manual, and blanking on what this component was. 1950 F4 driver side attached to frame underneath rear of cab. Hydraulic brake booster?
The inlet fittings are ruined and big hole in the side of the unit.
Looking for an ID and hopefully a lead for a replacement?
Not thatI would recommend anyone modify a brake system without being totally aware of what they were doing and what the results could be, but there are a few of these larger trucks running with no booster and stopping just fine. There is just a bit more effort required to activate the brakes. My 49 F4 shows no sign of ever having a booster and with a complete brake rebuild, I have no trouble stopping it from modern legal highway speeds.
A well known forum member removed the booster from his F5 and was still able to drive and stop the truck.
I would think an aftermarket booster could be had and fitted.

I may do this short term to get it moving and see how it goes. The heaviest load it'll haul is a few surfboards down to Huntington Beach so probably within the performance envelope..

Could I get a picture of your brake setup under the cab? Just want to see how yours compares to mine. I checked your history and didn't see anything jump out at me so I figured I'd ask.
