I was draining fuel filter and broke one of the little plastic ears off of the drain plug.Anyone know if you can buy just the plug or have to buy complete housing. Plug has # on it hc34-9n188-ac but I can't find it anywhere.

That part number is called “plug assembly - pump”.
Does that sound like the right part? I want to order a back up also.
Stinks to get a camping trip delayed for something like that. Sorry that happened.
HELP!!! I just had this happen to me, any way to do some southern engineering and get my truck back on the road??? Or at least make the fuel stop? I see in the owners manual a fuel disconnect on top of the tank, I have felt all around and can't find it.
I'm new to diesels. Where is this valve and why do I need to drain it? How often? Is there really that much water in diesel fuel?
Its a plastic yellow twist plug on the bottom of the fuel filter housing on the front of the fuel tank. I drain mine about every 5k, I haven't; had any water in it yet. I generally drain about 6 ounces into a plastic bottle and let it sit on workbench to see if any water settles to bottom. This is about the 5th of 6th time I have used it, I must say its a POS, I was real gentle on it.

Every 5K is overkill unless you suspect you have bought bad fuel somewhere. Manual says is only need to be done when the dash display calls for it. Honestly, that 5 or 6 uses is probably designed to be spread out over the life of the truck.

The manual states that the water separator needs to be drained once per month.......now that is a bit of overkill.
I drain mine about every 2500 miles when I top of the DEF tank.

The above is from the 3rd printing of the 2017 manual, page 345. There are also references on pages 574, and 579, that indicate Monthly or Every Oil Change 'if necessary'. I guess the catch 22 is, how do you know if was needed until you do it. (Unless you have been driving around with the message to drain it)
I checked mine twice in the first 8000 miles, both time, no water at all. Based on that, it will get drained every 15 - 30 thousand when the filter is changed. For those that want to check it monthly, I guess as its a 5 dollar part, buy a case, and replace them every 3 months.

I saw a YouTube video where the guy said he drains his every tank full. I thought that was nuts and a total pia.
