Holley Broke

I am in the process of rebuilding a holley 600.
I removed the vacuum assembly from the carb housing for cleaning.
I went to put the assemble back in the carb with the three screws and ii NOTICED THE VACUUM DIAPHRAM GASKET IS MISSING.
Is this just a small O reing that goes against the housing.
I also have a small bullet shaped fitting -looks like a spacer or it might fit over a shaft.
Any information at all would help?
Where can I find a detailed diagram. The instruction sheet in the rebuild kit is hard to follow.

Thanks

As for vacuum diaphram, yes there is a small flat CORK gasket that goes in between. Usually it sticks to one part of the other. If you have one of those "good" rebuild kits there should be one to replace it. If all else fails...try a small dab of silicone to seal it. Not that big of a deal, not the right way, but if you can't find the gasket.

As for "bullet spacer", not really sure what your talking about. I have 600 Holleys on ALL my hot rods so I'm quite well versed in the parts...but you've got me baffled.

I know the blown-up diagrams are usually pretty hard to decipher if you are not familiar. I have a couple Holley books, but I dont think ANY have real pictures of the parts.

Heck, leave it off. If it runs it didn't need it anyway....LOL.

Thanks for the info.
Is the flat gasket just a little square piece of gasket material.
If I seal it off where does the diaphram get its suction. I put the carb together with a small o ring the truck runs terrible -will not even idle.

take the vaccum secondaryunit off, start it and then put your finger over the vaccuum hole for the vacuum secondary unit. if it still runs awfull, your problem is either a vacuum leak, your mixture adjustment, or check the float level. shut it off and unscrew the brass site plug in the float boal. if no gas comes out its too low, or if gas comes gushing out its too high....check the web or a manual for adjusting the float. then after you have that figured out, worry about the vacuum secondary problem. just dont forget to keep the vacuum secondary vacuum port blocked while your working on the other stuff..............

Ok, sorry I misled you. Yes it is a small circular cork gasket that is about 1/16" thick. If you can't find a gasket to work, then a small dab of silicone AROUND the hole to seal it would work in a pinch. Not the right way, but it would suffice.

As for idle, I agree on the possibilities mentioned. I would start with float level. Remove brass screws and start engine, try to keep running for a short while to see if gas comes out hole. If it pours out, then you need to lower float settings. Depending on which model of float you have, once you loosen jam nut(whatever style you have-factory Holley or aftermarket), turn valve clockwise to LOWER the level. I usually preset mine with bowl off. WIth bowl upside down, I turn valve till float is about level with hole in side of bowl. This will get you in ballpark.

Start with idle mixture screws (on sides of carb) about 3 turns out. Start truck and set idle so it stays running(at minimum rpm-600-800 rpm for now). Now turn (1) idle screws IN slowly till you notice motor starting to slow down. Turn back out around 1/4 turn. Go to other screw and turn IN till motor slows and then back out 1/4. Both screws should be at the same basic spot. One should NOT be 4 turns out, the other 1.

Now adjust idle for proper speed.

Hope this helps
