I am hooking my F150 up to the analyzer Tuesday. My bud thinks its a A/C drip on to the coil or oxy sensor near plug #4. It misses under load-out of the hole, then flattens out, then once in overdrive about 60 mph. If I drop it into 3rd then it flattens out at hight speed. 100k service was just done (plugs, fluids, belt, filters, etc) but will not pay the stealership the $120 to hook it up--they know what it is. Any ideas?
It could easily be a coil on plug (COP) that has gone bad. Also check the heater hose above #4 to make sure it hasnt been dripping coolant onto the COP.
Was the MAF cleaned when everything else was done?
It sometimes is not on when I start it, then flashes, then goes off, or then goes to steady on. The past day it has stayed on steady even after a fresh start. BTW, the problem started before the 100,000 tune/maintenance--not as a result of it.
I had it hooked up and it had a recent code-P0304, and two old ones-P0171 and P0174. The heater hose over the #4 COP was shot because of the leak and replaced. There was also two secondary problems causing the oxy sensor to attempt to adjust the fuel to rich. This was vacuum leaks in the crankcase and PVC hose assembly. Truck is running great, but the check engine light came back on solid. Might just need to clear it or there could be another problem. Does not seem like it though.
My check engine light was on because my buddie hooked up a wire to a
solenoid wrong--hard to notice under the intake manifold in the front on the
right. The APG (? on name) was not hooked up as a result so the check
engine light came back on steady. A code was returned after hooking it back
up and pointed us to the problem. The end solution was indeed to replace
the heater hose over the #4 cylinder coil, the coil (COP), and the vacuum
hose assembly that had two leaks. Yay!
