Hey guys. Just picked up an 85 with a 7.3idi swapped into it. I'm trying to figure out these return lines. The front drivers side had the front nipple on the injector cap blocked. There's a metal line coming from the injector pump and it goes down the back of the motor. I thought the front drivers side injector was supposed to hook up to the injection pump, with the main return running down the passenger side of the block and to the tank selector valve in back. Does anyone have a helpful diagram? Or the fitting I'll need to come off the IP to hook up to a new rubber fuel line?
Your injector pump is using a 6.9 return fitting, just leave it capped and it will work fine, next time you buy return lines you could just go with a 6.9 kit. Either way there interchangeable..
If you change the return fitting to a 7.3 style you will also have to change the metal line that runs across the top of the motor.
If you're picky I probably have all the stuff you need if you want to trade me for the 6.9 era stuff once you replace it. Pm if interested if not no biggie
I got rid of the metal line and ran a new hose from the front drivers side injector to the injection pump and ran the return to the fuel tank selector off the back passenger side injector. Did the lift pump replacement and all 8 injectors/glow plugs. If it still runs like **** I'll light it on fire.
