My truck failed emissions today, for the 2nd time. I dont know whats wrong!! Ive replaced my cat converter, egr valve and egr position sensor, o2 sensor, pcv valve, spark plugs, cap and rotor, air filter, and breather filter. I really dont know what else to do with out spending a lot as im short on cash. I really need my truck to pass smog as it is my daily driver. What could be making my hydro carbon and carbon monoxide levels ridiculousy high? Ive also heard if i remove the spout wire or something from the harness connected to the distributor that it will pass emissions, and after just connect it back on. Will that work? I dont know what else to do and i dont have the money for somebody at a shop to look at it right now. I need responses quick and thanks for anybody that does!
First off, do you have any codes in the computer? Even if the CEL isn't on, there might be codes. There has to be something for it to be running that poorly, emissions based.
I got a 91 f150 with a 302. Readings were.....Hydro Carbons --274.5, Limit 143, -Carbon Monoxide -- 3.28%, Limit 1.6% But tomorrow im gonna try to get a waiver, Ohio has this thing if you have spent over $300 trying to make it pass smog theyll do some waiver thing thing for 2 years instead of it passing. So ive put about $410 of crap into so im gonna try to get the waiver and try to fix it after. But still want to find out why its doing so bad.
