Today my dad brought me home a paper about a company truck for sale. Here are the facts that are on the sheet: 1997 F-250 Supercab Powerstroke diesel, standard transmission, 4 Wheel Drive, and 146,105 miles on it. Here are the problems: Jumps out of gear, Front hubs not pulling, fuel sending units not working, no controls on AC, no radio, and no tail gate. Now with all of those problems I still know that that is a valuble truck, to an extent. The starting bid on it is 2000.00 How much do yall think that truck is worth and how much would it approximately cost to get the problems fix. The exterior and interior is in great condition, so just the problems that were listed is all that needs to be fixed. Thanks!
Well that is a company truck that was used for field service. I dont think that anything heavy was ever towed with it, it was just used to do work all day everyday. I'm going to look at it today and maybe test drive it. But those problems seem to me like it was just used rough, same way i'd use it anyways! What would cause it to pop out of gear and would that require a full transmission rebuild? thanks
I agree with Theo. 146k is not a lot of miles with to many problems. And those are just the problems that you know about so far. + problems that are just around the corner. I'd pass.
You will definetely have other problems after those are fixed. This truck has seen neglect and lots of it. Buy it cheap and use it for parts or fix it a little and use as a junker. By that I mean, drive the heck out of it until it completely dies. Then sell the good parts & body to re-coup the original cost back if not more than a couple thousand or so. If you buy, fix, and sell tell the buyer(s) what you did. Make sure no one gets a crapped out PSD (without knowing it) and has a bad experience with one. They may never buy one again.
Everyone needs a cheap vehicle to run through creeks, bank into trees, run down mav cows/calves, river racing, etc!
alrighty, well i just went to look at the truck, and i think what they put on the flyer is all worse case scenario. The front hubs will need to be replaced, but the transfer case is still spinnin the shaft, so i dont think there is a drivetrain problem. The transmission is said to jump out of 4th gear, but i didn't get to take it on the highway (insurance purposes). And i believe that a trucks interior and exterior would be kind of a tell tell sign of how the truck was treated. The interior is spotless and no wear or tear on anything. The exterior paint is glossy and scratchless. And there was never a gooseneck in it, and there was no trailer hitch receiver. I was told that the truck was mainly used to haul large things that would be used to build large engines, probably things around 2-3k lbs. And im guessing 4 wheel drive to take the stuff out to field locations. I hope i dont sound like im already in love with the truck, but i would really like some honest feedback on what you believe. So far very negative, but thats good, may help me from buying a lemon!! And im not to sure about the clutches on these year trucks, but this one seems to be a sure engagement maybe 2 or 3 inches from the floorboard. No play in it, just a firm engagement into gear. Seems good to me from all of the other manual transmission vehicles i have driven. Well thanks for the feedback so far and keep it comin!!! Dont let me do somthin stupid that i'd regret!!!!
