BIG PROBLEM !!!
I had one GP tip blown off and in the chamber, made an awful clanking noise on start-up then the noise went away! Seems like the tip went through the system but now I have a small clicking noise that has set in. Could this be an exhaust valve damaged when the tip went out? The truck runs good, no smoke, has power and idles fine, just a bit anxious if I have to take the head off!! What do you think?
Oh man, that wasn't good. You could have a bent valve or something going on in there. It might be worth a look before the damage gets any worse. What kind of plugs were they. This is common for Autolites. I would get them out and put in some motorcraft beru's,(Autozone). PN is ZD9 i believe.
Yea,
they are Autolites, read several articles stating they are prone to break off tips, well, seems I have a big job waiting for me !!
Thanks for your reply,
Ok,
Will be awhile though, have to order a gasket set first, can't find anything here in France!
Bye the way, I am originally from Maine, not too far from where you are!

Long story, very long story, long gone vietnam vet to make it short, but I do get to the US on vacation every two years, or when I get homesick, which happens more & more often now!
I am pre-retired at 53, can you beat that???

Good news,
Must have blown out the tip ! Engines is as quiet as before, I think I ordered the gasket set for nothing. There must have been a small piece of the gp tip between the exhaust valve and the seat, I let the truck idle for awhile, it studdered once and the clicking stopped, talk about luck !!!!I am going to order the best gp's I can find!
