Rear window frame rot

Hey everyone-I have some pretty bad rot above the rear window on my 56. Insulation was up there that got wet at some point and rotted everything through.

I'm thinking I need to find someone with a cab that is willing to cut that portion out so I can patch it in. I know my limits on my fab skills and I think the rounded edge on this is past my limit.

Any other ideas to this repair? Thanks in advance!

I can't help you, but that mean odd place for rot, but your explanation makes sense.

Where are you in MO? I may be able to help. I've had to buy 2 different roofs for my 56 to get it fixed. Be sure to check the rest of your roof for rot along the drip rail. Especially over the doors. It pays to get it blasted to be sure you've got good solid metal.

I had the roof of a '53 F500 hacked off the rotten cab and it's sitting out back of my house. I *think* the rear of the '53 cab is 100% identical to yours. If the section on my roof isn't rotten I'd be happy to cut out that section and send it to you. Just pay shipping and it's yours. But I need someone to confirm that they match and the new piece can be welded in. Any takers?

I pulled the roof out of the weeds and yes that section is intact. Muddy, but intact. And it would be a perfect patch for your repair presuming the actual section of your '56 matches the same section on the '53. Here's a picture. Like I said, yours for the taking.

I'm located in Kansas City, but I travel around MO for work a bit too. I'm lucky in the fact my drip rail is solid. It looks like some mice made a nice nest and their leaky bladder is what caused this rust (and smell...)

I don't have any trips planned to the STL area for a bit, but I'd be happy to pay for the patch and shipping if we couldn't meet in person! Thanks for the reply and the offer to help!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm new to this site, but have a 64 c-10 in the garage that I did a few years ago. The 56 is just the new project.

In the short bit of homework I did, it does look like the cabs are the same, but being newer to the site, I'll see if anyone else will confirm this as well. Between you and BJ, I might actually be able to get this thing fixed up!

Maybe Kevin bigwin56f100 will know? I know the back glass is the same.

There's a old Ford Truck get together in Branson July 14-16 called the OZARK MOUNTAIN RUN. Great place to get ideas and ask folks how they did things.

You could always try Calvins and then if it doesn't work there's still mine.

I did some homework today and it looks like all of those cabs are the same.

Calvin-Are you up for a little hacking? Let me know the best way to get a hold of you.

I'll have to put the Ozark Mtn Run on my calendar for next year. I'm tied up that week already this summer, but that's good to know!

It looks like I'm half way in between you two. You can both meet at my place, we can grill out or maybe pulled pork and chat and go for a ride in my truck.
