What goes here?

What goes where the black circles I drew go? There are 2 holes on each side but looking at my original pictures from when I got the truck there is nothing in them.

I have those holes on my F6 cause it had a grill gard installed by the dealer.

On a 53-56 the holes for a grille guard are more centrally located.
