I bought an 87 F250 that was missing the 460 motor. I have a running 460 from a 92 that I can swap in. The manual trans from the 92 is going into my 97 that is 2wd and an auto. I know that sounds crazy but there is a reason for all of it. My question is about the engine wiring and computers. Is the engine wiring harness on the 92 all one harness or is it looped into other circuits in the truck? Do I need to keep the computer with the engine and swap that into the 87 or keep it with the transmission going into the 97? The 87 had a 460 engine so will the 87's harness run the 92 motor? Thanks in advance.
If you have all the wiring from the '87 (including the engine overlay for the injectors) then the 92 will plug right in. None of the wiring from the '92 will work with the older truck.
The only difference is the fuel rail. '92 should connect at the rear of the engine by number 8. The '87 would have connected at the front by number 5.
Computer will run the engine but you will have to wire it so it think the clutch pedal is pressed.
Not sure on the black/gray TFI ignition differences and what year it started. Truck will run regardless.
Thanks Brad. The build date is 09-87. It has an ecm and round firewall plug. I bought it with no engine but it came with a pile of parts the owner said came off the truck which included an efi intake and throttle body. The motor I am swapping in is efi (92). Is the engine harness a closed system that only runs the efi and sensors or is it part of the entire truck harness? I'm having a problem finding a decent schematic.

That most likely means it is a 88 truck. What is the 10th digit of the vin. THAT tells you what year it is.
