I bought my '10 Super cab FX4 Base with 77k on it at the end of March this year. This is my first vehicle with aluminum wheels and all of my other vehicles have had chrome or steel wheels. I got a really good deal on this truck and besides the wheels, it is very clean for it coming out of northwestern PA (originally sold from a dealer there) and ending up in western/central NY at some point.
To me it looks like the clear coat has failed in spots and has allowed some oxidization to happen. I have read and a few people on here have mentioned about using aircraft stripper to remove the rest of the clear and then re-clear after polishing the wheel.
I am looking for some opinions on 1) if they can be fixed and 2) how to go about it. All work would be done by hand and I need to be able to keep the truck running as it is my daily driver. So media blasting/powder coating is out of the question. So here are the pictures and please excuse the appearance. It has been raining just about everyday for the last month and a half here so it has not been washed in about a month.
Not worth the extra work. It would be cheaper and easier in the long run to either find replacement OEM wheels on CL or get aftermarket wheels. Those OEM wheels just aren't that desirable and you should be able to find a used
set pretty cheap.
That is what I thought. I have been looking on CL and I have seen used OEMs for $5-600 for a set. For that price, I can add a bit more and get some new aftermarket wheels.
I had the same issue with my 2010. Along with the blue Ford oval popping off the hubcaps, the rims looked awful while the rest of my truck was mint. If I had kept the truck, I would've just bought some aftermarket black rims.
