Tailgate not releasing

It's been a helluva week with our weather. A lot of rain and hail like I haven't seen in a long time. There was no damage to the finish of my truck from the hail which surprised me. This thing is built well.

Anyway, I tried to open my tailgate today and it would not release. I tried all 3 ways to open the tailgate - the cabin switch, the key fob and the button on the tailgate with no luck. On the off chance the truck needed to be rebooted I disconnected both batteries, which didn't help. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Check fuse F16 in the battery junction box under the hood. It supplies power to the BCM for the tailgate release and child lock relays. It should be hot at all times.

I had a similar issue with my electric release. I was able to open it if I kept pressure on the tailgate and pushed the release button. I took it to the dealer and they adjusted the tailgate; I'm not sure what was adjusted. I have not had a problem since.

I had the same problem yesterday. The top rubber tailgate bumpers may be backwards. I turned mine around and it fixed it

Thanks for the suggestions! I had to go out of town this morning, but I will try your suggestions when I get home Monday.

When I press the button on the tailgate I hear no noise, however when I press the gate release button in the cabin I do hear a solenoid switch.

Could I have inadvertently locked the gate when I made changes in forscan?

I checked the fuse and it is good.

Thanks, tried that. I will take it to the dealer on Wednesday for them to check out.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately this didn't solve the issue. Good part is it helped me locate the harness.

I can not hear the solenoid at the tailgate, but when I press the interior gate release button there is a click that sounds like a solenoid in the cab.

When I press the gate release button on the tailgate the brake lights flash. I hadn't noticed that before.

I know this might be beyond what it is but is your tailgate completely closed.
