Anyone here ever twisted a driveshaft before?? Well, I just learned that I did!! I just had a set of BFG 295's installed on my truck, and I was getting a shimmy at 70 mph...it was a no brainer that the tires were off balance, so I thought. After having the truck spend a whole day at the shop, they came back saying I had a twisted driveshaft!! I gotta give props to the shop I took it to...they could have just said, "It's not the tires, it's your truck." and been done with me. They took the time to look at the problem from all angles, and find the root of the problem. Anyways...I not second guessing their verdict on the shimmy. I did do one hell of a burnout on my stock tires before I took it in. If I could just get my damn digital camera to upload pictures, you'd be shocked and amazed!
Seriously though, I gotta get this thing into the shop on Monday...I can just imagine the stresses being put on the driveline parts by my out of balance driveshaft.
Strange is that I drove a good 50 miles between the time I did the burnout and when I got my new tires and didn't feel any vibration at all. I guess the tires balanced out the driveline vibrations while they were being spun and melted.
The BFG's are SOOO much better riding than the Firestones, it's been raining here for the last 3 days and the wet traction with these tires is above and beyond anything I expierenced with the Firestones.
Thanks for the tip! I have a shimmy that does not shake the wheel. I rotated the tires. I had them rebalanced. Still have the shimmy. I think I will take the truck in to see if the DS is slightly weeked. I did a couple a burnouts before I got the new rubber on my truck, but that was 25K ago. I don't remember when the shimmy started.
