I went with a 5th wheel, the model is in my signature. I went with the airbags from doing a little research and getting opinions. The truck squated with 5psi, not terrible but once I got out on the road and into some bumps I was very glad that I had them as I would have been getting into the bumps really hard. I run about 50-60 psi.
Loaded up, my fifth wheel is about 12,000 pounds. My 350 SRW handles it with ease! The unfortunate truth is that most of those RV salesmen know very little about tow vehicles.
The only thing I find odd is that he didn't immediately upsell you to the biggest 5er on the lot.
This might be the first time I've heard of a salesman at CW telling a customer they didn't have enough truck. Usually they are the guys telling people with non-HD/Max Tow 150's that they can *easily* tow a 5er like the one you were looking at.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I've never heard a trailer salesman say anything but, "Yeah! You can tow that fine!"
Yeaaa don't rely on the RV dealers for that kind of stuff. They either try and sell you a fifth wheel being pulled by a half ton, or they claim your truck doesn't have enough ratings to pull it. I'm betting he just wanted a quick sale and once you told him your truck was coming soon he knew it wasn't gonna be quick.
I think RV salesman are usuallythe best truck salesman. "SURE! that F-150/ 1500 will tow that 12K trailer! No problem."
Customer then tries towing the trailer at the very tippy top of the tow vehicles ratings and realizes their mistake...oops. A few white knuckle trips down a windy freeway or up some long grades, the reality is setting in. Customer now goes out shopping for a "real" truck to tow the big trailer and ends up in a Super Duty or other HD truck with in 6 months.
This is funny. Im blown away by the towing stability and power of my new F250 compared to my old 7.3. I swear this truck pulling 4k will outrun my old truck and it was chipped lol. I see youre talking about a 6.2 but the control and stability is still going to be great. This salesman is clueless.
Just came back front pulling across PA. i was running between 70 to 80 mph with no problem. They was plenty more to give her. Power Stroke with 4:10 rear ends

There are good dealers out there, but the huge RV lots with multiple franchises are not, generally, in that category.
I bought my TT from a family owned dealership that makes sure you're set up for success. I was in there a few weeks ago and one of the guys was telling me about a dude who came in wanting to buy one of the really big Raptors. They asked him what his TV would be: Toyota Tundra. They told him it wouldn't work. He shot back the whole spiel about that truck pulling the Space Shuttle. Then he told them he was gonna buy that Raptor, and if they wouldn't sell it to him he'd find someone who would. They wished him well, and he found another dealership that apparently didn't care that he had a Toyota. Broke the axle within one week. Kinda doubt Toyota warranty will cover that.
So, I went to our local camping world today to look at some new fifth wheels. I was I was looking at a few of the models, they were in the 10,500 to 12,500 pound range. The salesman asked me what kind of tow vehicle all I had. I told him I had ordered a brand-new 2017 Ford F350 and it should be in by the end of this month. He looked at me and said " well, I'm a Ford guy, heck I'm even from Detroit. You may have problems towing with that truck. Since they went to this new body style and it is lighter, the trucks don't have enough *** to haul these larger fifth wheels."
I told him that the truck was rated to tow a 15,500 fifth wheel and he just somewhat shrugged his shoulders. I just somewhat blew him off because I figured he's just a salesman he does not know these trucks and probably doesn't know these campers that well either. I figured he would be all about just selling a camper to get it off their lot, so I did not pay much attention. However, when I got home I just started thinking that I should at least do a little bit of checking before making a purchase on a fifth wheel. Does this sound absolutely ludicrous to you guys?
I had a 2016 F250 and traded it for a 2017 F350 so that I could get more payload to haul my slide in camper.
I weighed both trucks at the CAT Scale here in town and can tell you with all things being equal, full tank of gas in both trucks, my 2017 F350 weighed 540 lbs less than my 2016 F250.
