Advice Replacing v10

2000 x blown engine im getting ford dealer to replace soon. 200k miles, replaced trans a fee years ago, new tires, generally love the room for family road trips and on a budget, can't do any work myself. Any advice or suggestions? My dad is helping and I think the radiator replacement is an open question depending on how it looks? Thanks

Are you getting a new OEM or remaned OEM Ford motor?

Its new terminology for me, I think remaned, i thought I was told that's what is only available since they don't make those engines anymore? Thanks

Pretty sure the 2V V10 was put in E350 van up till at least 2014. So new and remaned motors should be available.

AER Manufacturing out of Texas remans the ford V10 for Ford.

New 2V V10 part # 9C2Z6006AA. It will have a van oil pan and pickup but that is an easy swap.

I also have a 2000 4x4 6.8l V10 that I am in the process of replacing the engine on. I went with a reman from powertrain products for ~$3600. I just received the engine yesterday, so I don't know how well it works, but its a nice looking engine. The one I got came out of a van, so I need to put the valve covers and oil pan from my engine on this new one, but everything else looks like it will bolt right on. One thing I like about this manufacturer's claims is that they fix the flawed spark plug hole design when they reman the engines, which is what killed my original in the first place.

The engine itself came with the heads, valve covers, oil pan, intake and exhaust gaskets, water pump, spark plugs, and some oil already inside it. Some of that stuff I ordered ahead of time since their site states their long blocks don't come with it (aside from the gaskets, but their 2000 V10 was marked as a "COMP" engine, which I guess ment complete. I will be returning the water pump and some other stuff back to RockAuto.

Me and my father are doing the swap ourselves instead of paying a shop to do it (cheaper that way), we have all the necessary tools, it just involves a lot of time and swearing. I also bought a new A/C compressor, power steering pump, steering gear box, Banks headers & Y pipe, fuel pressure regulator, injectors, coils, hoses, ect. Basically everything under the hood. I figured since everything was apart and easy to get at, now is the time to replace it. I'm also taking this opportunity to clean, paint and undercoat/rustproof everything I can. Something a shop would never do. So far I have about ~$6800 in parts and tool cost.

I will not be able to drop the engine into the truck for about another two weeks due to waiting on parts to arrive and some other stuff I need to do, but I am excited to see how it runs.

Here is the thread I've got going for my rebuild. I'll likely update it with some pictures soon.

Not sure why your motor is bad but if it's not rebuild able, aftermarket remanufactures may not accept your core....IE hole in block.

When I talked to ford they will accept cores that have holes in block.

Be aware though a 2012 2V V10 may not have a warranty because it would be in a 2000 Excursion.

If warranty is what you want the Ford reman 2000 V10 is a good alternative.

No point in spending an extra 2k for parts that will not fit his truck just to get new. If he buys from Ford, the warranties will be the same.

Yah, I know a new motor is pricy. It's just I'm not a fan of remanufactured motors.....even from Ford.

I know they are built to certain tolerances but I'm just leary is all. Having rods that could have alot of miles on them reused in a reman is a little scary to me. The cracked rods are a weak point of this motor. The crank however is good as its a high quality piece.

Having milled heads and block isn't a huge issue but compensating for the mill should be thicker head gaskets. Maybe that's done I don't know.

In my opinion I would rather have a tested used motor with 25,000 to 50,000 miles on it before I would put a reman in my excursion. But that's just me.

I gave the E350 engine data out just in case OP wanted a new one or decides to look a the salvage market for a low miles E350 motor.

Here is one with 15,000 miles on it.

I understand it's a cracked block but Ford dealership didn't say anything about that being an issue. Problem now is the price has risen $1000 since last year. At 6k I was willing to overpay for the warranty at any ford dealership nation wide. But at 7k now I'll start investigating an independent mech . My dad had a guy to do it for 5500 that he trusts but I was worried he could retire 6 months later and I'd be on my own.

I found a machine shop that sounded honest, for half the price(3000) they would reman my engine. If block was bad he would get another for a few hundred. Warranty 1 year labor, 2 years parts. Any thoughts going this way?

Well yes I have thoughts but I know nothing about the machine shop. Do they use a hone plate on block when the bore it?

I would go the salvage route and you can get a 6 month warrenty on some of them, but you seem to want to go a different direction. In that case I suggest a OEM short block. Part # 5c3z6009aa or 2c3z6009ba not sure. It's a new OEM part with block pistons crank oil pump etc. Cost is about $1800. Plus a $500 core charge. Ford will accept a cracked block for core.

According to Tasca Parts the shortblock includes cylinder block, pistons, rings, rods, rod bearings, crank, main bearings, timing chain and sprockets, camshaft and bearings.... doubtful since it has overhead cams so ask. Also includes oil pan.

Than have your machine shop reman your heads and assemble your motor.

Too bad you are so far away. Getting ready in about 30 days to pull out my v10 with 150K on it and the trans for the cummins conversion. Perfect motor/trans too! It would go complete, nuts to bolts.
