Working on the the Ex......again.

I've been chasing a hot no start off and on for awhile,I just said to hell with it in the cold weather and got a little motivated today so I changed the ICP out with one I had that is a known good one. Well that didn't fix it. I know ,air test that sucker, but being a 03 motor it's easier said than done. I got one other thing to check, some of you may remember that my oil filter came apart and the oil has been black no matter how much I change it. I'm wondering if the oil by pass is screwed up and not keeping oil in the hpop reservoir but that's a long shot. I have a new hpop sitting in the wings, I just have to get gaskets and stuff. It runs good just doesn't start hot and has high IPR number under heavy excelleration. I'm open for ideas for a quick fix thou.

To start it's out of focus. But it looks like this an early build truck.
The reason I say it's an early build is because it has the first design oil filter standpipe.
Again, pic is too fuzzy to tell for sure.

You are 100 percent correct. Believe it or not I got it from Ford when the filter came apart. But the problem is that the housing is from a later model engine. I figured out why the oil is not getting filtered. Now to start taking it apart and air test. I ordered the gaskets and the screen. I'm sure the hpop is done. But with 248,000 on the clock who knows what else I'll find. It is my fault that the pipe is wrong,I should have measured the housings. Good thing I was changing the oil every 3k trying to clean up the engine. I'll order a new drain back pipe and a valve too.

Let me ask u this, did the dealer lookup the part by VIN? If so that doesn't work anymore if you have newer engine hard parts like filter housings or turbos, ect...
The one you now need will have a spring near the top that collapses when the filter top is screwed down.

This should be more appropriate.

You are correct again, I figured I out about 7 Tonight after I remembered changing the housing that had broken taking the top fuel filter cap off. I never thought it would make a difference because it had a spring load pipe verses the older pipe. That's why it wasn't getting filtered oil, it was by passing it all the time. At least I know the problem and can get it all straightened out. I wonder what the chances are that the IPR screen is blocked up with crap, or the screen in the valley.

I'm going to quit while I'm ahead!
Really though, I don't know the history of your Ex but if the oil cooler has never been removed it has a very good chance atleast 1 of the oil cooler area resevoir screen's are tore and/or missing. For the IPR screen it's to tough to call but easy enough to check and get the kit to change out to the updated reinforced screen and new o-rings.
