What did i just find in my oil pan?
Alright guys I'm about to endeavour a 5.8 and zf swap on ye olde 89 bronco, however I have come across some interesting stuff with this engine I just picked up. Now this engine came out of a 96 f150, but as soon as I pulled the intake I realized she wasn't a roller like I was expecting and must have been replaced at some point or another. Ran the casting numbers and she's a 79 block (not sure about the heads) out of a "generic car". The truck this engine came out of was an old cn service truck and was supposedly rebuilt, so far I know it has a new timing chain and has been resealed. However when I brought this engine home a few things alarmed me. First off I pulled the intake off and found a socket in the intake port on the head. Yes a socket, 5/8 deep to be exact. I haven't found any damage from this. The worst is when I pulled the pan off and found 2 large pieces of metal sitting in the bottom, this made my stomach turn. All of the piston skirts seem to be intact and I can't seem to find anything broken off anywhere, it's looks to be cast and part of the block because one side has matching factory blue pant the other side has hatch marks. That's not all, also found In the pan is what appears to be some sort of sleeve, can't seem to figure out where this came from either. So I propose to all of you folks of FTE a new game called name this part. No, but seriously all I want to know is if this engine is even useable or if I just picked up a very large paper weight. I'll post some pics.
just realized how terrible these photos are, I'll take a few more when I get a chance.

The aluminum pieces are either pieces of cast piston skirts or off of a timing cover. The iron parts look like pieces of an iron water pump. That engine could have come from a car that was hit in the front hard enough to damage the waterpump and timing cover, then pulled and the damaged stuff replaced before you acquired it. Anyway, you paid for a turd. I'd bring it back and demand the money back of a genuine roller 351 that hasn't been molested.
