I have read numerous times that getting the extended warranty at the time of purchase is not a wise decision. My new truck should be coming in later this month or early next month. I am considering an extended warranty, but want to get the best deal.
I read on this forum somewhere, although now I cant find it, that there was someone who sold the same extended warranty that the dealerships sold only significantly cheaper. Does anyone have any info on them or any suggestions on extended warranties? Do I really need one?
Honestly, just get the price from Flood, and if you want it added to the finance bring in the price and show em when you buy the truck. I haven't figured out why, but my cost from Ford is about $150 MORE than what Flood sells em at. I also wouldn't give it away, and would need at least $100 for the hassle, however, if $250 more than about the cheapest place to get it is worth having it financed, then that can be a good strategy. Heck, maybe the shop you go to can even match it!
Extended warranty plans are kind of like insurance policies. I can't count the number of years I've had insurance and never filed a claim. I would hate to add up all of the money I have spent on vehicle and house insurance. Having said that, I have only had one new vehicle with an extended warranty and that is because the dealer included it in the deal. As we all know, an extended warranty is only good if you need it. I've been considering buying an extended warranty. With all of the high tech gadgets in these new trucks it may be a wise choice.
I was the one. Flood now matches my guy who is one of the top selling internet dealers because of the people I've sent his way (43 states, hundreds of people).
What my guy will do that others won't is finance it at 0% for a 24 month period. Yes you can roll it into your loan but then you pay interest on it. If you don't want the cost broken up into 24 months because of the higher monthly payment, roll it into your truck loan. I was paying $82.50 a month for 24 months plus you have to put 10% down at time of purchase (so 90% is financed 24 months). There is a cost for doing this that dealers charge the customer but he waives it (eats the cost).
You can wait but if you buy it after 1yr/12k, you then pay a little more. I've seen them go from $50 up to $200 more depending on the plan and vehicle. If you don't care about the small amount, you can then wait till you get closer to the 3yr/36k mark. But what you do get is first day rental so if something does happen, you drop off and drive off in another vehicle. I always buy at time of purchase because I always find little things to bring it back for and it's too much of a pain to try to get rides or shuttles etc.
One thing to keep in mind too is when price shopping, you have to compare apples to apples. Example of what dealers do to try to show you the lowest price is they "delete" the 1st day rental option. This option comes with the contract and there is a "delete" box for that option. So one place may quote you with it since it is included but when you go to Flood, they have it deleted in the price and you have to add it.
@Frantz - not sure why your cost is $150 more when Flood sells them at $100 over cost as well.
I have been looking at the extended warranty as well and noticed that the LED lights are not covered unless you add it as an add on to the policy. The LED policy is not much, about $70 depending on the plan you pick, but from what I have read on this site a replacement light is about $1000.
I waffled back and forth on the ESP. On my 2009 F150 I purchased one, and it saved my bacon at least 3 times with 2k repairs each and once for a 1k repair. All for a $100 deductible.
In the end I purchased mine from Flood Ford. 7/100 PremiumCARE w/50 deductible. With this being nearly a complete redesign and all the electronics in the King Ranch, I figure just get it and be done.
I figure if I use it 3-4 times like the last new model truck I purchased I'll make back the extract $200 in cost for the 50 vs 100 deductible.
I drive between 12-15k a year, so I'm good for 7 years.

Glad you pointed that out! Tells me that I need to go back and read a little more thoroughly; although I don't think I have found enough detail to have seen it.... back to Google...

FloodFord has the warranty pdf available for review too; this may also prove helpful. The "devil is in the details", so look for the asterisk(s) and subscript numbers!
