Have you checked for codes? You need to run the Key On, Engine Off test first. Also known as KOEO.
The CEL doesn't have to be illuminated for codes to be stored.
The ECT and IAT also play a part in starting, to a lesser degree. I have read where the ECT can cause a similar problem when starting if it's bad.
You can test both of those sensors as well. If you check for Key On, Engine Running (KOER) codes on a cold engine, you will see them since the engine hasn't been warned up.
Have you checked the FPR for a ruptured diaphragm? These can go bad and when the diaphragm ruptures I side, raw fuel will get sucked into the intake and cause a flooding problem.
Another problem that masks itself as flooding is the EGR valve. If the pintle inside doesn't close off, then when the truck starts it's sucking in exhaust gases and the truck runs terrible. It becomes a huge vacuum leak.
You can also try posting your problem in the '87-96 Truck category for a wider audience.
