Quick question I got a 79 f250 with a seized up 351m I have a lead on frame towers from a 79 f150 that has an inline 6.. (I want to do an inline swap) is the towers a direct bolt in both are 4x4
Yes they do. There are 2 different sets. One for the 351m and 400 and another for the 300 I-6 and 360 FE.
Although the 351M/400 towers also fits 302 / 351W and the I-6 / 360 also fits all the other FE's, they weren't stock for a 4x4.
You can see the difference in the angles of the mounts. About a whopping 15 degree difference between the 2. BUT!!!! Sometimes it is required to use different holes on the frame. If I recall correctly, the I-6 is moved forward a hole to compensate for a longer motor.
I've also ran into this swapping transmissions but that's another story...
Reviving an old thread looking for new knowledge: I see the above that frame perches for the 400 engine vs. the I6 (300) are different. What about between a '78 F-250 vs. a '78 F-150?
My project truck is a '78 F250 supercab 4x4 where I'm swapping in a 300 engine (originally had a 400).
I have access to a '78 F150 4x4 with a 300 in it. Both are manual transmission.
