Measuring and welding . Scuff and paint , install engine rads etc . ready for remaining parts hood , bumper etc. and final paint . Hopefully adds up to happy momma .
It's a Subaru forester , yes I've been doing this for awhile . The parts car has fixed three including this one , did two others this winter so the profit from their sales pretty much covered the total investment ( my time never seam's to get figured into it ) but mom get's a nice little car without much invested .
What is involved getting those vehicles licensed again.? Lots of red tape to go through here in Ontario. I know a guy who hit a moose with his truck and the damage was only cosmetic and his registration carried a tag with it that it had been totaled..
Yes lots of hoops due to years of backyard " fixes " . It must be taken to have a structural integrity inspection ( lots of hoops here , frame measured weld's and methods checked ) and then needs to have a road safety (which is required for all used vehicle registrations ) and then it will carry a PTL (previous total loss ) on the registration . I personally don't mind the extra PIA as it has made it easier to sell these vehicles but of course at a discount which dissipates with age .I find I can usually fix a car with labour for about 2/3 of a normal dealership price .
You certainly look like you know what you're doing and have the pictures to prove it. Hope you show the end results here too. Is this all done in your home shop..?
Yup all done at home I have anchors around my floor a 10 ton pull ram and measuring equipment if it gets too complicated I can make arrangements to use a proper frame setup on the weekends at a bodyshop I used to work at . But I try to avoid those jobs lol . I will post finished pics , 2 small dents in the used hood and 2 door dings on the pass doors so very little filler if any ( possibly just putty ) and my wife likes things to be hers so I am going to play a little with some designs and pearls .
Wow and I thought replacing the back half of my sierra's truck frame was a project? That was a snap together compared to this.
Where do you get all the measurement values? Is there a bodymans "book" for collision repair values?

Yes you have to get the chassis measurements , for this one I bought a complete chassis repair manual (downloaded online ) because of the complexity of the damage . I think a few of the pics show my tape with numbers , those are of the measuring points that were used . I takes a lot of tinkering but the only measurement that wasn't perfect was one to the headlight mounting hole 2mm ( .079 inch ) which can be moved by hand easily so I think I'll live with it lol .
