AA Overdrive Install Advice Needed

Putting the Advance Adapters O/D in front of the NP 435. The big block is coming out for a rebuild first and I want to reinstall the engine, O/D, and 435 as a single unit. My concern is whether, first, the unit will go in and, second, whether the combined weight will be too much for the motor mounts until I get the cross member placed. See below.

My reason for doing it this way is that the tranny cross member needs to come back 7.5" to account for the added length of the O/D. I could easily just measure and relocate it but I'm a little worried that it won't exactly mate up even though I tend to be pretty meticulous about making accurate measurements. If I can get the unit int here perhaps place a jack under the trans to help support the weight while working out the cross member placement, etc.?

Or am I being overly cautious? I'd appreciate your input. Thanks. Vic

Hi Vic,

You should be Ok. When you install the assembly, line up the motor mounts and leave the cherry picker supporting some of the weight until you can get the 435 supported with a jack or something. Then remove the cherry picker.

When I installed my O/D the first thing I did was remove the driveshaft from the 435 and accurately measured the center line angle of the engine/transmission with a digital angle finder as it slightly tilts down. Mine was about 5.8* down from horizontal. When I relocated the tranny's cross member backward the required 7 1/2 inchs I ensured the final location maintained the 5.8* slop.

Take care,

Here's a few pic's of my angle finding:

Also a pic of the new and old tranny cross member "feet".

Thanks. I thought about the driveline angle and figure a way to check it - after I removed everything but the engine. Think I'll use your number as a point of general interest and see how everything looks. Thanks a lot!
