Upgrade Ideas

Hey y'all. So I'm starting to lay out upgrades for my truck in the world of performance. Right now I've got a bone stock 2008 F250 super duty 6.4l crew cab XLT. As a disclaimer, I'm not made of money and this is my daily driver but also my weekend off road toy, so I'm not looking at building a truck to pull sleds or do call outs. Most of this work will be done myself. I'm just looking for inputs on what to do on the intake/exhaust/tuner type things. I plan on lifting it and running 37's so with that in mind, please help me out. Thanks everyone

Just as I would tell my best friend; don't put any money into a running 6.4. Save all that money and trade it in for anything but a 6.4/6.0.

Saving your money is and should be with a 6.4. You need to do a lot of research on the 6.4 before you invest money in the wrong areas.

You should go to the 6.4L Diesel forum for engine specific insights.

The SD forum is pretty much only good for hearing about how much a POS every 6.0/6.4 is Short on technical help and long on telling you how their 7.3/6.8/6.2/6.7 truck's are oooooh sooooo much better.

Brad....the reason you hear some bad things about the 6.4 is that some guys deleted them and installed hipo tuners. They ran the crap out of them or towed with the tuner on max w/o benefit of a boost or piro gauge until ...... POW!!! If they hadn't of tried to make a race truck out of them they may have lasted longer.

There's a diesel shop in town and the owner LOVES the 6.0 but he does all the necessary "bullet proofing" which is pricey. He won't even touch a 6.4, refers them to another shop. You here the phrase that a 6.4 is a "throw away" engine and maybe it is.

Depending on how many miles you have on it and the maintenance performed, plus the fact that you have no other option you might try a 4/5" exhaust, the cold air intakes are kind of useless in my opinion. A stock filter is best, never use a K&N and a very mild tune, NO blowing coal!! That's just stupid, hard on your engine, wastes fuel and pisses people off. Plus the cops can cite you for excessive exhaust. It's up to you, as you will read, these engines are questionable, hammer it too much and $$$$$$$$$$$. Good luck

In all seriousness though, one of the SD forum mods is senix, he pulled a 5ver with a 6.4 for a long time, and did some serious work to it IIRC. He'd be a good guy to talk to directly about it, or maybe he'll pop in here at some point.

Yea, maybe he'll chime in with some info. I'll try to look into his profile too.
