Agricultural products. Soy Beans, etc

I think Michigan's max weight is something like 160,000 lbs with 11 axles(??) They're one of the only States. And Canada. He goes into Canada with it a lot. Hates that trip. Takes him through Dee-Troit where he used to patrol as a State Trooper.

I drive one every day even for commuting purposes and I don't find it to be much different than the SRW trucks I had...

Buy the long bed diesel (as far as I'm concerned, long beds are the only way to go for virtually every reason). Put airbags on it like EpicCowlick did. He has a great youtube video on it. You have no need for a dually.

The DRW is the same 176" WB as the SRW with the 8' bed. Love the 48 gallon fuel tank on the long wheelbase trucks. The rear duals don't stick out any further then mirrors so just watch what you're doing when you park. Much more stable when towing also and with the 4.10's pulls like a train. Use mine for a daily driver and go to the post office..bank..grocery and everywhere else! A lot better then using son in laws F-250 short bed that was over on payload with the heavy pin weight on our trailer. Wish I would have bought a dually sooner.

Son in laws F-250 with Air Lift bags

Truck leveled out perfectly with 3,050 lbs on pin wt. For a heavy toyhauler a DRW diesel is the way to go.

I struggled with the DRW vs SRW question myself. I've had 2 SRW F250 6.7's and really liked them but was just about at the limit towing my 5th wheel. I went ahead and got the DRW and it really isn't that bad. There's only one place I can't go in the dually that I went with my other trucks...the parking garage at the Airport. But they have extra wide spots down the street and it's cheaper than parking on site. Just have to take the shuttle. Other than that, it's really not a big difference, to me anyway.

Most fifth wheels, loaded, put 23 - 24% of their gross weight on the pin (toy haulers tend to be a little more back-heavy). Our 14K fifth wheel weighs in at 3,100 lbs on the pin. A 15K trailer loaded could be between 3,400 and 3,750 lbs. on the pin. The mistake many people make when considering trucks to pull a larger fifth wheel is to focus on the engine and drive trail. Sure, diesel is very important (I wouldn't tow without one), but rear axle capacity is critical. With 15K GVWR fifth wheel, you're in F350 DRW territory. Having "been there, done that," I'd rather tow with a V-10 gasser and dual rear wheels than a 3/4 ton diesel that doesn't have enough payload capacity.

Just FWIW from a full-time RVer...

I have a 17 Lariat F-350 SRW CCLB FX4 with the 6.7. My payload capacity is 3298 lbs. If I was expecting pin weight of over 2k I'd most likely go DRW. I tend to carry 2-3 other full grown men, and lots of weight in rifles, ammo, and gear in my truck. 1300 lbs isnt much payload left for all of that. It's also pretty easy to throw a bunch of camping gear in the bed of the truck for some of these road trips.

considering i'm looking at a crew cab so there is room for wife, dog, "stuff", and likely things like a generator in the bed, tools, etc. DRW is sounding more like where I'll need to go.

I guess I better go drive one and see what its like... oh darn

By the time I put Timbrens and Bilstein shocks on my 2500HD trying to get it to handle the load, it rode about like the F350 DRW does stock. The main adjustment has been parking a bit farther out at Walmart, etc. - which is a positive on the physical activity side.

The insane one that tows that Battleship with his Ram 2500 used to own and operate a smallish Trucking Company. Maybe ten Tractors and assorted Trailers.

So it's not like either one of them just rolled into town.

Would I do it? HELLS nah!

You're gonna be fine. A DRW is a PAIN in the ****.

If you need one, you need one. If you don't need one, don't get one.

But if you do -- YMMV. As usual, I could be wrong
Why is a DRW a pain?
