I just bought a new 250 a week ago. I was washing it today and I saw a white paint flake on my bumper. After some looking around I noticed that the paint was chipping right on the front of the hood. If was just a little piece, but still.....
If Ford still giving thier trucks crappy paint jobs???? Will the dealer fix this???
I would be willing to bet that there are "Paint Bubbles" on the front edge of your hood. I have been looking at a lot of F-250s and this is a common problem that I see with them. The bad thing is, when they "pop off" it is down to the bear metal.
I am ordering a '04 F-250 and if it has those "Paint Bubbles" the dealer will order me another one!
Your right, I looked at the rest of the hood and there are more problem areas. I even found a spot where the paint had already came off and they superglued it to keep it from chipping more. . I called the dealer and he told me "I'll see what I can do" I told him B.S. you'll fix it. I bring it in on Tuesday, I'll keep you informed.
You might want to check the roof also. There are alot of people who are finding cracks in the rain (gutters?) Ford states that is definately a factory defect BUT " past your 3year 30,00 mile warranty". "We will see what we can do!" I have a 2000 F250 that is always parked in the garage. E-mail Dateline at dateline@nbc.com and put in the subject line "Ford factory defect". Tell them your story. Everybody I know that has a Ford with this problem is doing the same. They are interested to see how many people are being affected by the same problem.
I emailed Dateline, I love Ford trucks, but screw the dealers.......they are all crooks. When I went to the dealer, they said they would not fix my paint because it must have been caused by me slamming the hood on somthing.......... Looks like I have a battle on my hands.
jiggers a defect is a defect and miles of time do not matter. Remember the silver paint problems years ago? Every one repainted those. There is a link somewhere that was posted on who to contact for warranty. Look for a post on denied warranty of something!
Slamming the hood knocks paint off? thats a first.
Thanks for the information Daimon. I am currently in the process of a small claims suit. Apparently they have a tendency to settle with a person just prior to going to trial. We'll see! SuperDutyHaulin, you should visit the thread that Daimon put up. Although it is centered around using after market stuff, the same concepts of the law will apply..
Have you found out anything about your paint? I went to a different dealer and he told me that I was not the only one with the problem. He actually brought me to some vehicles that were on the lot that are having the same problem. He did give me an estimate and told me to take the vehicle back to the dealer I bought it from and see what kind of estimate they will give me. I talked to some local news stations and they want me to get this information to them asap. They feel that they should bring it to the attention of the public. They have contacted the media reps to see what there response is. So if you haven't had any work done yet, don't get it done. We may get this taken care of for little or nothing. Did you take your vehicle to a different dealer?
The origional dealer that I bought it from said that they would not take care of it because they claim that I slammed the hood on something. When I showed them the paint bubles, they said that it was normal and that they would do nothing. I have been out of town so I have not really pressed the issue yet. What News groups want the info? I would be more than happy to participate. I think it is B.S. that I paid over $40k for a truck and the dealer cant spend a few hundred to fix a paint job that was their fault to begin with.
Any dealer that does not think this is an issue, take them out to their lot and show them the hoods. I bet 50% of the trucks have this issue from the factory.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Ford to let them know that this has been happening for god knows how long and that they need to fix it?
HI Frank! You can call Ford Customer service at 1-800-232-5952. Or even better send them an e-mail so that everything is documented. Allow 2 days for them to get back to you, then e-mail again. Make sure they reply to you in writing. Better for documentation, just in case you have to take them to small claims court. Ford has a website also at ford.com. Also, a ton of people have contacted Dateline at dateline@nbc.com and put Ford factory paint defect in the subject line. I went to a dealer on Wednesday and talked to the auto body manager who is a friend. He said I was not the only one with the problem. He actually took me to other Fords on the lot and showed me they were starting to get paint problems, but they were still for sell. Apparently they are not going to do anything until people make a stink aout it. I have also contacted some local news stations to advise them of the problem. We have some stations that have a special news segments for consumer problems and complaints. This sort of thing is a huge story for them. They are currently trying to get in contact with the media rep from ford. I advised anybody to call their local newspaper and/or news stations.. Do us all a favor. It's not that most of us can't afford a new paint job, it's the principal that Ford will not stand behind their product that we spend so much money on in the first place.. My advise is to not spend a dime on the problem until this thing goes public....
I bought a new Super Duty the other night. After closer inspection when I got home I found at least 10 paint bubbles throughout the paint job throughout the truck. There are probably many more...just lost the patience looking for them. I traded in my old F-Series for that very reason. This past winter several paint bubbles had chipped off on my old truck - so I was ready to get something brand new. Since I had bought that used but was extremely happy with the Super Duty.
I am going to demand they give me a different truck. Over half of the truck would need repainted to address the bubbles. Bubbles are located on 2 doors the tailgate and the front quarter panel and who knows how many more that I didnt find. Along with that it appears one bubble already cracked and the metal is exposed - on top of that I can count at least 10 scratches. I cant believe they sold this thing to me!
