About to purchase a 2017 F250 6.2 gas with 3.73 gears and 20" tires. Tow a 9000 lb camper about 6 times a year, rest is just normal driving don't tow further than 500 miles a trip one way. Does this setup sound ok? Thanks in advance for your comments
Should be fine.. when you're towing, you may wish you had gotten the 4.30 gears, as they supposedly do wonders for the 6.2 motor... and I do love them in mine.. but if you only tow 6 times a year, then you'll probably really like the additional bit of fuel economy the 3.73 will give you the other 359 days..
3/4 ton pickup with a gas engine isn't gonna get much for mpg anyway. I'd opt for the lower gears the fuel usage difference will be minimal anyway but could make a world of difference in towing.
Waweagle, I'm pulling an 11k lb toy hauler travel trailer. Because of the weight and almost every adventure I go on will involve at least one mountain pass I went with the 6.7L diesel. If I had the option I probably would have opted for lower gears than the 3.55 I ended up with.
My 5.6L half ton truck struggled tremendously with my trailer.
Get the 4.30s if it is even a question. See the 6.2 in my sig? I had to get rid of it because the hunting from 6-5 or 5-4 towing my boat 7300 or trailer less than 10k drove me crazy.

Compared to a truck with 3.73 gears and 18" A/S tires (646 revs/mile), going to 20" tires (596 revs/mile) effectively reduces the axle ratio to 3.44. I think you'll find this truck's performance to be a tad "sluggish".
LOL.. have about 2k miles towing the camper now. No complaints, and we have now been over pretty much everything "tall" east of the Mississippi. 6.2, 3.73's, 20 inch Michelins. 7000lb trailer. It's a truck, towing a camper. Maybe 4.30s would be "better".. don't know, I ain't racing anybody, just going camping. Totally happy.
