I've had this problem for a while now. I've cleaned the motor, and even put a known good one on. It will go into 4wd hi, but when I hit the low range button it just clicks at me. I've can put 12 volts direct to the motor, and it will go into 4lo. The only thing left to change is the shift control module. Anyone have one for sale or know where to get one? I've checked some local yards, but all they have is Explorers. Is there a way to test this module? Thanks, Red

 

the control module is an expensive part. everyone i have gotten from the junkyards have been bad, im still looking for one that works myself, the module is about $800 from ford. good luck!

 

are you putting the tranny in neutral before you push the 4low button. if that module is that much I would swap over to a manual tcase would be way cheaper and more reliable.

Well i called the dealer today, and the shift module is $430.00. Not quite as much as a manual swap, and too much not to be sure this is the problem. When I push the button on the side of this module what should it do. When I unplug the to flat plugs and push the button it fjashes 4 or 5 times. If I leave the plugs in and push the button it just stays on. I hope someone can shed some light on this cause its driving me nutso. Yeah, the tranny is in neutral. 4 Hi works just fine.
