Terminal block did not survive. I have a splice kit in hand. Hope to tackle the job next weekend. Thanks again to all. I'll post final pics if I remember.

Finally found time to do the repair. Here are two pics of the final steps in progress. The shrink tube didn't shrink as much as I was expecting so I put the wraps of electrical tape on the ends. In hind sight I wish I had put some dielectric grease on everything before I put the shrink tube, to reduce the chance of future corrosion. Oh well. Thanks to everyone for all the help. :-)
