Gas sender unit replacement

Anybody knows if I can replace the Gas sender unit on a F-100 1960 with a part from other model/year?
I have the pick up running 12v. Can I have a Gas gauge installed from other model/year as well?

Thanks in advance,

They make after market senders for those tanks. That should work with a after market guage. The original sender might work with a after market guage as well. But not sure. A 1960 was 12 volts.

As long as the length of the float wire is the same length (ie: to read the tank depth) and the sender is a 12 volt style i would say you could us it. For my 79 F100 i used what ever i could find that fit the hole and float lenght.

'57 to '60 are 12 volts, but the instrument panel has a regulator to drop the voltage. So, senders from the 6 volt era may still work.

That was my Question Angus...In one of my catalogs they say dont use a 6 volt sender, but I cant figure out why not. Anyone think its a problem to use a 6 volt sender on a 12 volt system?
