EEC differences

Hey guys, I searched here and Google and over on full size broncos.
Now, for the CCD and Push to Start ignition I know the ICMs are different. Grey vs Black, how the ICM reads the signal rising edge vs falling edge when the coil fires.
But what I haven't been able to find, is it all read and dissected in the ICM or and the ecm can be changed between years? Or do you need a pre93 EEC to read the push start ICM and a 94+ to read the black ICM?

ICM type would follow ECM.

Cool, that's what I figured. But I wasn't positive that it was in the software. I second guessed that maybe the computer was the same and the way the ICM set the info between the distributor and EEC was the only difference.
I was just curious for the reason that I'm slowly getting closer to assembling the 351. And I know that there have been some issues noted with using an E4OD EEC with a manual, and it seems to be difficult to find a 351 manual in the pick a parts around here. I have the EEC from the donor but its a push to start EEC not a CCD.

The ICM is not between the distributor and the computer.
The PIP bypasses the ICM on its way to the computer. In the distributor mounted ICM the PIP does pass through the ICM unchanged.

The ICM does not use the PIP signal unless the SPOUT is removed.
