New 7.3 Diesel Owner looking for advice
Hey Gang !!
Proud new owner. I have to brag a little that this has to be the cleanest truck I've ever seen. 2000 Ford F-250 XLT 2WD 7.3 Turbo 165,000 miles and clean, clean, clean. I pulled a car fax and the ONLY thing that's on it is the registration renews every year. Was owned by a guy down in Missouri that pulled a camper to Montana every year. Sold to a guy in Minnesota that drove for a year and now it's mine. Drove my '10 Toyota Tundra up with trailer and worked that new puppy on the way home.
This brute is factory stock as far as I can tell.
The whole reason I bought the truck was to pull my 35 ft 5th wheel with a 20 ft ATV trailer behind that so looking for advice on any "upgrades" to do for the best mileage and pulling experience.
Thanks in advance for the ideas
Dan
Sorry I have no idea why the images are upside down.

Your fun is about to start in learning this engine and everything you can do to it. Much easier too if your a DIYer compared to the newer diesels that are so much more cramped in the engine bay.
For mileage, start with making sure the EBPS is cleaned out free from soot as it relays for fueling.
You may want to look into gauges - either Isspro or autometer seem to be the best people recommend - or you can go a cheaper route as I did and get a OBD II dongle adapter to display all the info you could ever want on gauges on a tablet. This will allow you to see how everything is behaving while driving empty and towing and you can see what changes when you start modding.
The factory air box is known to be poorly designed - brackets easy to break and lets everything through but filtered air. Many do the cheap DIY 6637 but if you don't like the turbo scream while under load, AIS or S&B are better options and well worth the extra money to quiet it down.
Upgrading to 4" exhaust will also help you out, lowers EGTs.
Check out the harpoon/hutch mod. The fuel tank is known to clog the inner tank filters and starve the engine of fuel. You can remove these and add an inline fuel filter pre pump. This mod will also remove a good portion of the unnecessarily long pvc fuel shut off mechanism and will allow you to get substantially more gallons in your tank which means longer distance before your next fill up.
These are the one's I would start with. They will improve your 7.3 greatly and aren't very aggressive mods to do. Some may chime in with tuning. I'm no expert on that, not really any of this stuff. Just throwing out what I've learned from so many on this forum. Congrats on your find and welcome. And yes, check out the 7.3 forum
