Hi, got my 54 ford running after pulling engine and trans. I also pulled my bed and redid the bed wood and installed a 45 gal in bed tank. so got it drivable but found out I had no running lights or brake lights but I do have directional in the back. its been running with an EZWIRE harness and was working before. IM thinking I've got something grounded that s not supposed to be cuz every time I turn the head lights on it blows the tail lamp fuse. any other ideas would be appreciated. I have the two wire 56 rear lamps .
You definitely have a short somewhere. Since you pulled the bed my guess is a wire going to the rear got pinched or something within the tail light itself is shorted. Follow the wires back to the tail light and you will probably find it...
Sorry, anything that we would tell you would be a pure guess. The best thing that you can do is to dive in with a good ohmeter. You didn't mention smoke and flames so that is a good thing.
Your brakes and turn signals share the same wire. The running lights are on their own circuit. As Pete suggests, get a ohmmeter and check the running light wire to ground...I bet you will find a short. Trace the wiring and I am sure you will find the source of your problem. Good luck...
