Recently, our 2013 F350 SD front driver door has started make a "snapping" sound (for lack of a better word) both while opening and closing the door.
When it's opening it "snaps twice" and when it's closing it "snaps" once, every time. The other 3 doors are fine.
In the attached pic, it's the black "arm" that goes between the door and the door frame that's making the noise. Where it attaches to the door frame, it seems to have broken in half from around its hinge point. Every time the "snapping" sound happens, the hinge point at the door frame seems to separate and then spring back into place after the sound stops.
I'm not sure if me explanation makes any sense, so, please ask for clarification if needed.
I searched online for an hour to find a door schematic to see what this part is called and if/where I can get a replacement.
Any info and boost in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
I'd either take it to a dealer do they can search for the part, or else take the cover off the inside if your door and see if you see a part number stamped on the section that's inside the door (I just looked on mine just like you have in your picture, but don't see a part number on the exposed part.)
Thanks for the reply. You're thinking along the same lines as I am. I've never seen this before, but, then again, I find myself saying that about quite a few newer vehicles out there!
@CPaulsen - Wow, you're obviously more internet savvy than I am! I missed than during my search this morning.
I'll see if I can find it... Thanks for checking it out.
