Health workers said one of the reasons why the death toll was so high was that families abandoned their elderly relatives alone at home while they went away for August vacations
First I would like to say that it was an excellent article. A little on the bias side but there are several points that are true and do make sense. And I would like to say that most of the responses also make sense. Ain't it great to be in a place where you can express you opinion and not worry about the local Police or other agency coming to talk to you.
I also don't care for the French, not from the recent actions but from the past actions. The recent just simply support the past. France is a country of cowards overall, some true people but the vast majority fall into this catagory.
Just my take on it..
Yeah man,
So like, there's this dude running a whole country over in Paris, and he really screwed up. Like, it's all his fault, man. See, all of his people just like, took a week off and totally bailed on their grandmas. What a bunch of tools! Like 10,000 people died cause they got too hot, and this thing called "soshelizm" is what caused it, cause these people didn't have air-conditioning.
So this dude should like, be shot, cause he killed like 10,000 people, man! And he wasn't even there, man! He was in Canada, and we all know what goes on up there, man...
So like, I should be the ruler of Paris, man, cause I would never kill that many people, and everybody could have air-conditioning, and I would make it a rule that people have to like, make sure they take their grandmas on vacation, cause that's just not cool to bail on granny while you go party and stuff.
Anyways, this guy is totally screwed, cause he killed so many people, and now everybody hates him.

11,000 dead. How many of natural causes? How many of causes other than heat? What's the normal number of deaths in France in August? Does anyone know the REAL numbers?
How easy it is to sit back and feel high and mighty.
How many of you have Grandma and Grandpa in a nursing home right now? (The French, like many people of European countries, don't shove their elderly into homes and hook them up to machines to keep them alive, they leave that kind of callousness up to us in North America. Instead, they live at home until death, preferring to go naturally and on their own terms. I'm not suggesting that they should have merely been allowed to die of heat, but some understanding of their culture might help before you simply pass judgement.)
How many have elderly parents at home alone?
Do they have air conditioning, or adequate heat?
Can they entirely fend for themselves?
Did you check in with them daily while you were on vacation?
What about those that can't afford these necessities?
On another note,
How many would die if Atlanta, New York, or the eastern seaboard for that matter, hit say 125-130 degrees for a couple weeks? (The equivalent of the heat wave in France.)
1, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, maybe even 11,000?
Socialism my axe. It could happen anywhere, to anyone.
Waxy, I am from the sout, i feel no ...crap..not good with words..I do believe that tere is a lack of responsibility in them over there, and us over here. Then again, yes, we check in on my grandparents everyday, and yes tehy do have more than adequate heating and air, and they can fend for themselves. As far as hitting 125...you realize that none of us would live very long given those circumstances? I live through every summer hitting temps of 104 for weeks on end....and we even had Heat indexes of OVER 115F!!
However, I have not made up my mind about this article. Even though I dispise France, and Socialism, though not as much as Communism, or Dictatorship.
Mr. Prager always has some strong opinions that I often agree with. For those interested he has written several books.
I think he's a little over the top on this one.
It's fun to bash the French but how many of you have been there?
Just remember, we would have lost the revolution were it not for the French. At best I'd say we're even.
True the French are generally more intellectual than Americans. Should they be ashamed of that?
The problem is that we don't understand or appreciate each other.
The French love to bash us too.
That being said I'd rather live in the USA but the French can teach us a lot about smelling the roses and we could teach them about
taking care of business.
I'm not sticking up for the French, I personnally think that they are a bunch of whiney brats, however to say that they have "never" won a war? Read up on your history a little farther back then the 20th century. Ever hear of Napolean? The French were the world's major Superpowers for a couple of centuries (along with England). Just during the reign of Louis XIV they experienced greater prosperity and world domination then most countries of this world will ever know. After the French revolution and the advent of Socialism is when their country went in the toilet or "W. C." as the French call it.
Actually if you would like to be technical, Napolean was Corsican. He grew up on Corsica till the age of ten, when he was sent to Brienne, France to join a military acadamy. He went back and forth between Corsica and France all his life, But he served in the French military. Corsica is not a part of Italy.
I was in Germany during this heat wave, and I don't have air conditioning. It was freakin hot! Not as hot as where I was the month prior (Iraq) bu hot never the less. 106 avg and 111 one day in the city where all the pavement is. I guess I was acclimated.
My guess to why all the people died. Drinking too much beer and wine and not enough water. Beer and wine are dehydrate you. Just a guess.
Check the history of all the ex-world economic leaders and you'll find that a majority of them declined into one form or another of socialism after their reigns. The most recent were Spain, France and England. While a faulty and expensive system of government, quasi-socialism is about all that keeps the populace in check after the lower and lower middle classes experience a degree of affluence. We're beginning to experience the beginning stages as our unemployment grows (extended/extended/extended benefits) and additional social services (state level medicare and welfare) are required to avoid social unrest. Enough people with no food, medicine or shelter quickly take justice into their own hands.
